Dana Cortez, PA-C

I chose medicine as a career because it is like solving a puzzle. I try and find the best solutions to a patient’s problem. My treatment plan has the potential to vastly improve the quality of someone’s life and the lives of those around them. The opportunity to develop a plan to help a person is a huge responsibility and privilege.

My passion for medicine is improving the life and functionality of my patients. Pain patients are suffering, and I can’t imagine a more suitable place to focus my attention. In my free time, I enjoy walking my dogs. I love being outdoors and taking a moment to enjoy life with friends and family.

Jeana Backus, NP-C

My career in medicine has always been about helping people and make their lives more enjoyable. I realized I love to learn and meet new people. It is a great privilege for someone to trust me to care for them. I choose pain management because it involves getting to the root of a patient’s problem. I would say the most difficult part of pain management is seeing patients in pain and not being able to help immediately, as some treatment plans take time to resolve the pain.

I have spent 14 years in neurosurgery, and I enjoy all types of procedures and injections. I enjoy spending time outside and love working in my garden.

What To Expect

On your first visit, the physician will ask you questions about your pain, perform a physical examination, and order any necessary testing (x-ray, MRI, etc.). These will provide most of the information needed to make a diagnosis for your condition.

It may be necessary to perform additional tests or diagnostic procedures in order to provide more information to reach an accurate diagnosis. Spinal injections that are typically used to treat pain may also be used to diagnose the source of your pain. Our pain specialist performs these injections under fluoroscopy (live x-ray guidance) to ensure accurate placement of the medication.

Once your medical provider feels confident with the diagnosis, then a comprehensive treatment plan will be developed for you. In your treatment plan, you may be considered a candidate for therapeutic injections to treat your pain.
